Please Help Me With A Computer Related Question!?

Today i accidently click on a link and it automatically downloaded a ".pif" file. I didn't click on and i deleted the file right away. So i researched this file type and it seems like this is a popular virus extension. I am on a Mac not a PC, so my question to you guys is, am i safe from a virus? I need anwsers ASAP
