Is there a way to automatically change guitar effects while playing live, without foot pedal?

It may sound like a dumb question but I saw this band last week and it didn't look they were using any foot pedals at all but i could definitely hear the effects/sound of their guitar(s) changing. Is there a way to do this without foot pedals? Any and all help is appreciated :)
