How do I save a project on imovie 8.0?

I'm using imovie 8.0 and every time I add a picture or video clip to my project, then close imovie and reopen it, the newly added pics or clips aren't there. Everyone says "imovie saves automatically, just close and reopen it and your project will be there." This is clearly not the case. Is there a way to save the project manually, without relying on imovie's auto save?
